Well since I first posted this I have learned a little more about this frontier service. There were 1797 confederate prisoners in Rock Island Prison in IL who enlisted in this Frontier Service, I believe mainly in Sept and Oct of 1864 if I read it right. The prisoners were offered a $100 bounty to enlist. My question...I suppose the National Archives has a record of this and where these soldiers were sent. How do I go about ordering this info?
