Jim, I said that it was Ruffner's battery that accompanied Clark's June '63 expedition on the Mississippi. But it was in fact Von Phul's battery. Both batteries were assigned to Clark's command while at Fort Pleasant.

However, this expedition may have included guns from both batteries as it is my understanding that at this particular point in time Von Phul's batteries contained a couple of heavy guns which were used as secondary armaments of Fort Pleasant (According to USN Commander T.O. Selfridges reports) and may not have been well suited for taking on such an assignement.
