According to "History of the Twenty-Seventh Arkansas Confederate Infantry" by Silas Turnbow there was a yellow fever epidemic so maybe the second acount that stated he died is the correct...maybe he died of yellow fever rather than gunshot.

On Aug 3 they were marching back to Arkansas to meet the Union threat against Little Rock. He says on Aug 4 they camped near a distillery and everybody was drunk.

If they were marching to LR, then he was left behind at Girard Station, leading me to believe that it was illness rather than gunshot. What is the source for the gunshot info?
