The 3rd Arkansas Infantry Regiment (Aftican Descent) was ordered from St. Louis to Helena, AR & served on post duty there. The 3rd AR became the 56th USCT. The unit was mustered out of the service on 15 Sept 1866. Hope this helps with your search.
