I read the book back in the 80's, I got my copy directly from the author himself.

I agree with you at the time it was a very good book covering a portion of the early War in Arkansas that was previously little known about. I got several of my leads for my study of the war in Southeast Arkansas and Camp White Sulphur Springs from this book.

However, so much more is now known about these activities in Southeast Arkansas and the lower Arkansas River Valley Campaign from May of 1862 until August of 1863, that to me it now seems somewhat dated. However, it is a good book for those who are interested in the general history of some of the Texans in Arkansas leading up to Arkansas Post and afterwards in the AoT.

I would also give it a B + recommendation.
