Soldiers from Searcy Co., AR

I'm trying to determine whether an ancestor died in the Civil War. I am not even positive that he fought; however, the last time I find him in the censuses is in the 1860 AR census for Buffalo Twp., Searcy County. He was 29. His name was John (possibly Jonathan) Johnson, born 1831 in Illinois. His brother (my 3g-grandfather William Johnson) fought on the Union side although he lived in AR at the time.

I read an article online that stated that many of the men from Searcy Co., AR believed in the Union cause. I looked at the Soldiers and Sailors site. Found only a handful of John Johnsons from AR fighting on the Union side but numerous John Johnsons on the Confederate side.

Is there an online site where I can find a listing of casualties from each state? I may be approaching this from the wrong angle. If so, any advice would be helpful.

Many thanks, Connie Parrott
