The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: 7th Arkansas Bn (Desha's Battalion)

Just one other note. I know there are alot people on this board who know a whole lot more about research than me, but we also get alot of people who are new to research and trying to uncover things and I just want to say to them don't get discouraged when you hit dry spells, keep digging. My own research has been at a standstill for the last 2 years, then a couple of weeks ago at Batesville's Civil War Days, I ran across a lady who has a letter written by an ancestor describing the 8th's train ride from Bowling Green to Corinth which is being printed in the Independence County Chronicle and now I find this. Don't get discouraged and don't give up, just keep digging people. A couple of years ago, Dr. Joe Key (who is at ASU and with whom I graduated college)and I were discussing Arkansas history and it is such an untold story and in my opinion what is told is mostly inaccurate. He and I agreed the underlying cause is people see Arkansas history as unimportant, but we have a rich and exciting history and it needs to be told. Well, I'll get off my soapbox. I just want to encourage everyone to keep searching and let's tell the world about Arkansas, Civil War or otherwise.
