Hello. I hate to tell you this, but I do not buy that tale about Atteberry.
If he was with Price, he was with a designated unit of some sort.
He took a lot of young quick riders with him and they rode hard and rode fast for their lives.
We were always told that my own ggg grandfather was not with a group either.
It turned out that he was Lt. Fielding Price with the 1st Arkansas Cav. under Dobbins and he died in prison because of
help Lt. Price attempted to give Gen Price when he returned from the raid.
If I understood correctly Atteberry was in prison, so check to see what the records say and I bet you will find he was with
some sort of group. If he never drew a pension it might be that he never lived long enough to get it.
Oral history usually has some truth, but the facts can get somewhat scrambled through time.
Bayou Meto runs through central Arkansas. Is that what you are talking about?
This is a great place to find out the truth which may or may not agree with what you believe.
Good luck.
Linda
