I have not see Bearss 1959 book, so I can not comment on the details contained therein. Most of the articles such as the Arkansas Historical Quarterly seem to be a good outline of that event that is in need of serious updating in light of different understanding of what was going on in 1862.
It has been a while since I have read any of them, but I can not remember them including Admiral Porters vivid account. Which makes me wonder why not include his discription of the scene inside the Fort and the action there?
