Jim, there was a George Cook (no middle initial listed) who enlisted in Co. G, Adams' Regiment Arkansas Infantry, at Huntsville, Arkansas, on August 12, 1862; age 26; and was mustered into Confederate service at Elm Springs, Arkansas, on September 12, 1862, for three years or the [duration of the] war. Adams' regiment was broken up shortly after the battle at Prairie Grove, and most of the men were transferred to Shaler’s regiment. Pvt. George Cook was transferred to (new) Co. C, 27th (Shaler's) Arkansas Infantry, at Camp Massard, Arkansas, on December 17, 1862; and reportedly deserted on December 20, 1862.

He subsequently enlisted in Co. I, 1st Arkansas Cavalry, U.S. Volunteers, at Springfield, Missouri, on August 15, 1863; and was mustered into service on August 31, 1863, for three years. He served with this command for the rest of the war, and was mustered out at Fort Smith, Arkansas, on August 23, 1865. According to this regiment's records, he was born c1837 in Washington County, Arkansas.

According to a U.S. veterans' pension index, he applied for a pension in 1890, and his widow applied for a pension in 1921, stating that her husband had died at Hartwell, Madison County, Arkansas, on February 21, 1921.
