As part of my continuing effort to record the service of all Arkansans who served in the Civil War, I've started researching the rolls of non-Arkansas regiments which served and fought in Arkansas. Here is a bunch I found in the 18th Regiment Iowa Infantry, which spent a lot of time in the State. Most of these Arkansans were from northwest Arkansas, and many of them had deserted from the 34th and 35th Arkansas Infantry and 4th Arkansas Cavalry shortly before hooking up with the 18th Iowa. Two of these men were captured in the Poison Spring fight and subsequently executed for desertion. A couple were captured and never heard from again. One point of clarification: the residence listed for each man is as per each man's service record, but does not necessarily correspond to where the man was in the 1860 census.
