The 11th never left nor was it replaced. Both the 11th and 12th remained in Ft Thompson with Upton and STewart's artillery until the night of March 13 when they were all removed across the Miss R to the Tenn shore where they remained until the surrender on April 8, 1862.
Also:
"(page 9 of same book, relates in late November the 11th Arkansas reported to Gray they had British rifles and squirrel guns that had been sent to
New Orleans to be rebored, the job was poorly done causing them to burst upon firing)--- and I think this was the way Moses got a bad head wound"
The weapons of the 11th Ark were what they brought from home A mixed lot of rifles, shotguns and a few old muskets. I have a copy of the original muster of Companies A-F and every man has his weapon he brought with him listed. Many of these could not take the rebore to .58 caliber so it is plausible some could have burst upon firing.

Lastly:
"He was taken prisoner and died at Ft. Thomptson, He died in March."
It is entirely possible he rec'd a head wound as Ft Thompson came under fire on quite a few occasions. However, his CSR states he died Feb 16 1862 at Ft Thompson before any fighting occurred. If they only put died, it was usually due to disease. If wounded in fighting or even accident and then died they usually put that early in the war. But it is not saying he didn't die from some wound to the head. If it did occurr the only record may be what has been passed down through your family and there will be nothing in his military docs that show it.
