Thanks, George. This soldier has been a mystery. It is possible that he was John H. Black, once assistant editor of the Arkansas True Democrat in Little Rock, and an associate of editor Elias Boudinot. Boudinot was also on Hindman's staff, and it is possible that he used his influence to gain J.H. Black a position as well. It is rather strange that Boudinot, and possibly Black, ended up on Hindman's staff, as they were quite bitter in their pre-war reporting of him. If anyone comes across a connection, I'd appreciate it being posted. Again, George, thanks - much appreciated.
