The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Lee Crandall, 47th Ark. Mtd. Inf.

The 45th, 46th, 47th and 48th Arkansas Mounted Infantry were organized in the summer of 1864 specifically for Price's Missouri Campaign in the fall of 1864. No muster rolls for these regiments are known to exist. These regiments fought in most of the actions throughout Missouri and eastern Kansas during Price's campaign. The 47th Arkansas was virtually decimated during the Mine Creek fight on October 25, 1864. After the army returned to Arkansas, the men of the above regiments were furloughed and sent home to await further orders. When the Trans-Mississippi Department formally surrendered, the men were directed to proceed to Jacksonport for parole. Quite a few of them showed up and received their paroles there on June 5, 1865.
