The 33rd Arkansas as a whole, once assembled as a regiment at White Sulphur Springs, were training under the tudilage of Col. Robert G. Shavers at Camp Shaver's, at Lee's Springs, 3/4 of a mile from Sulphur Springs, from July 15th, 1862 until October 4th, 1862 when they left with Col. Shavers going to North Arkansas. At that particular time Shaver's was being recommended for Brigade command and the 33rd Arkansas was to be his "anchor" regiment. As we know Shaver's is often credited with forming the 27th Arkansas, but that was not the case as the 27th had already been formed in the summer of 1862 by Col James Shaler while Shaver's was at Camp White Sulphur Springs.

However it was the 27th Arkansas that was brigaded with the 33rd, 38th, and Adams Ark. Inf. that formed Shavers 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division at Praire Grove. And it was probably Shavers who was responcible for the 27th's training as Infantry from their previous Cavalry status that gave rise to the belief that Shavers organized the 27th Arkansas also.
