Volunteer Companies.

I am working on the Wikipedia Article on the Arkansas Militia in the Civil War. The Arkansas Militia acts of 1837 and 1842 authorized each county to form up to four volunteer companies, one each of infantry, rifles, horse, and artillery. Many of these volunteer companies went wound up in the first 10 regiments that were raised by the Arkansas Military Board. I am attempting to cross reference a list of civil war companies posted by Bryan Howerton, with the Kie Oldham papers at the Arkansas History Commission and other sources to provide a list of the named companies that have a documented connection to the militia. Some of the companies that Mr. Howerton list were raised directly for confederate service and had not real connection to the prewar militia. The Kie Oldham papers at the Arkansas History Commission contain the election returns for several of these volunteer companies, certified by the regimental commander of the local militia unit, but there are several others which I suspect were militia but I cannot document this fact. A good example of a company that was probably a volunteer company formed under the militia law, but who's election return I have been unable to find is the Yell Rifles—Capt. Patrick R. Cleburne. We know this unit existed prior to secession, because it participated in the seizure of the Little Rock Arsenal, but I cannot find anything which documents it's formation. Does anyone have another source besides the Kie Oldham papers?
