Damon: That is a GREAT article! My books, "More Generals in Gray" and "Confederate Colonels" has bios of several of the generals and colonels of militia, including Thomas H. Bradley and N. B. Burrow (check the spelling of these men in your article). More generally, what strikes me is that so FEW of these militia colonels became Confederate officers. One would have thought they'd be the natural candidates for field officers of the volunteer regiments, but it appears most looked upon the militia rank as a political plum.
