The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: James A. Stanfield, msg 4 Bryan

The period from March 1864 to the end of the war is often called the "Black Hole" in the Trans-Mississippi Department, due to the almost complete lack of regimental records. Apart from U.S. prisoner of war records, there is almost nothing relating to individual soldiers.

As Anthony Rushing stated, it is almost certain that James A. Stanfield was killed toward the end of Price's Missouri 1864 campaign. Unfortunately, there are no casualty lists from any of the Arkansas regiments involved in the campaign, at least none that I have been able to locate.
