Stewart enlisted July 9, 1861 as 2LT in Co C 11th Ark Inf. This was a Hot Spring Co company so theymay have went in to the 11th. He later shows up as a PVT in Co B 1st (Crawford's) Ark Cav after his release from prison in fall 1862.
