Cabell at Pilot Knob

At the request of Gen. Ewing, his aide de camp Major Williams furnished a list of the units in Price's army. In the case of Cabell's Brigade he also gave strengths of the individual regiments:

Morgan's Regiment - 500 strong
Monroe's Regiment - 500 strong
Hill's Regiment - 500 strong
Gordon's Regiment - 500 strong
Gunther's Battalion - 200 strong
Harrell's Battalion - 200 strong
Witherspoon's Btn. - 200 strong

Total: 2,600

See Williams to Ewing Oct. 18, 1864 in OR Vol. 41, Pt. p. 79.

The strength of the regiments seems too high. If true it would leave only 1400 in Fagan's Division for the division's other 3 brigades (assuming Fagan had 4000)

Any opinions?

Bryce
