Peter Cozzens describes Stirman and Major White 6th Tex Cav in front of the Tishomingo Hotel where he planted his Regimental Flag. The hotel was behind Rosecran's headquarters. Had there been more reserve the Battle of Corinth would have been Van Dorn's. When counter attacked by two regiments and artillery, Ras had to retreat. The next day Van Dorn called a general retreat.
At Hatchie Bridge, Ras Stirman's Regiment and the 6th Texas were crossing the bridge, when the Union opened up. Ras lost many troops KIA and POW but managed to get the remainder back across the bridge to take firing positions. The 6th providrd support for all those who could make it back from a brigade and the 1st Legion. With everyone who could, back across the bridge, Sul Ross the acting commander of Phifer's Brigade, proceeded to return the Union in kind. Three regiments of Union were now caught in a fire zone. Cabel's Brigade came along with its artillery and the Union quickly lost 500 men. And the Union called this a victyory.
But back to the problem. Company B of the 27th Texas Cavalry (aka 1st Texas Legion) became Stirman's Company H in the May-July time frame. Company I, 6th Texas and H, 9th Texas were attached to fill out the regiment of sharpshooters. In searching the records at Footnote, I do not find records for the Arkansas company attached to Stirman from May to December. In January 1863 they are with Stirman's Battalion. This company was Company B/27 and became H/1st Ark Bn/Rgt.
Does anyone have any knowledge of what the were called during this 7 months. The I/6th and H/ 9th are well documented in the NAR.
