The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Research

I have recently stumbled upon the existence of a 12 lb Brass Mountain Howitzer Barrel that was found outside of the small town of Brookland Arkansas about 40 years ago. I am trying to research how a barrel manufactured in Chiccopea Massachusettes in March of 1863 (I have tracked the barrel to there but dont know who it went to from there) came to rest in what was then swamp land in newly formed Craighead County, Arkansas. Looking at 1850-1870 maps there is a small village called Newport on the Crowleys Ridge Military Road that ran North/South from Helena to Chalk Bluff. Any information or contacts that might help to tracking down information on this piece will be greatly appreciated!!
