Bob

I ran into some of this with the enlistments at Camp White Sulphur Springs, with men that originally organized in Arkansas Units but died before they were officially enlisted during this period, but whose records found their way into Missouri archives and therefore were listed as Missouri soldiers. (Ain't researching the Muster rolls wonderful!!!!)

My guess is that these men originally organized with their respective company "F" 26th Arkansas on May the 3rd 1862 and were officially mustered into Confederate service on June 16th. But then were transferred on detached duty to the 9th Texas Battery after that.

Remember that 3 companies of the 26th were sworn into service (on May 15th?) at Camp White Sulphur Springs, and then moved to Little Rock, with later companies being added as they arrived in the reorganizational mess that was the rebirth of the Army of the Trans-Mississippi.

Where the discrepency comes in is that the Texas battery musters must have just back dated later muster rolls of these men's information to show an original enlistment (of May 3rd probably for pay purposes, as to which unit were they supposed to draw their pay from the 26th Arkansas, who they were on detached duty from, or the 9th Texas battery who they were serving with?) in that battery in their records rather than the 26th Arkansas. After all that was the purpose of the muster roll was for pay as much as it was for attendence.

Clearly the 9th Texas Battery was nowhere near Tulip Arkansas in May of 1862.
