We had a great discussion about these companies some time ago on this board.

Here are a few notes I made from that discussion and my own files:

12/16 Hawthorne’s regt reorganized by consolidation of original companies & addition of dismounted companies of Hailey’s, Perkins, Tomlinson
Six of the Companies were consolidated, others were re-designated, and new companies were added from Gipson's Bn, which had been dismounted and disbanded. The original Co E was from Monroe County. It was consolidated with original Co L (from Greene County) and reorganized as (new) Co E.
Companies I and K were still part of Gipson's Bn Ark Mtd Rifles (Dismounted) in the battle- They joined the regt at the reorganization
Gipson's Bn was disbanded, and at least three companies were assigned to the reorganized Regt -- Hailey's and Perkins' companies were consolidated to form (new) Co. H and Tumlinson's as (new) Co. K.

Were Serving in Carroll’s NW Dist in units that dissolved & merged into Hawthorne’s regt:
8/29 Hailey’s Co served as cavalry until dismounted 8/29
9/3 Co G org on King’s River thence marched to Elm Springs
9/12 Elm Springs-Co G mustered into service 9/12 as Ark Inf
9/16 Perkins Co & Tomlinson’s Co served as cavalry until dismounted 9/16 by order of Col Carroll

"Record of Events" remarks from (new) Co. H & (new) Co. K, 39th Ark Inf-These were Perkins'/Hailey's consolidated Co and Tumlinson's Co, respectively.

Co H This Co is composed of two Companies---one formerly commanded by Capt Perkins, the other by Capt Hailey-and consolidated into one by order of Hindman. They were originally mustered into service as Cavalry and served as such as follows---Hailey’s Co 8/24 & Perkins’ Co. to 9/16, and are paid as such on this roll. This Co was in the battle of Prairie Grove & had 10 men killed and wounded.

Co K This Co was organized on 7/4 in Waldron, Scott County & marched thence to Big Creek, Sebastian County, to Fort Smith and mustered into service on 7/20 as a Cavalry Co and served as such until 9/16 when it was dismounted by order of Col Carroll.. Served as such one month & twenty seven days when it was dismounted by order of Col Carroll.
