Unfortunately, no other information was provided in Freeman's history. The meager information provided was only that the skirmish was located 1 and 1/2 miles north of Powhatan. The Union forces, (other than occasional scouting expeditions and the expedition to take out Freeman's and other Partisan calvary units), left Lawrence County in late 1862. Unless the skirmish was part of the Morgan's Mills, Spring River, Martin's Creek, operations, I really would not have a clue. Just to be guessing I would say if it was not part of the Spring River operation, it would be mosty likely occurred sometime in late 1864/ early 1865 timeframe after Price's Raid. This would have been in the period that Dobbins and McCray were ordered to round up all avaliable men (parolees, Deserters, etc) in ther area to rebuild their commands.
