For what it's worth, I spent the first half of the fourth grade, many years ago, in Boonville, Logan County, Arkansas, my father's hometown.

The boys there went barefoot most of the time and as I remember, only donned shoes when the cold winter months came.

My father used to joke, that the first shoes he owned were those issued at Boot Camp when he enlisted in the Navy, 1927.
