I had just about stopped looking for information on John Wycliffe Shoptaw. While visiting my family in Arkansas October 2012 I received an e-mail from a Tom Shoptaw from Joplin, MO. He sent me a copy of the Confederate Registar verfiying the death of John Wycliffe Shoptaw. I have added the copy to Ancestry.Com.

Wounded at the Battle of Hatchie River Bridge. Oct. 1862, covering Gen. Van Dorn's retreat from Cornith, Mississippi.

Died in the Civil War Oct, 1863 Columbus, Mississippi. No record of Internment.
