Thanks a bunch for your help. Truthfully, I'm stretching a bit... I know very little about my ancestor except that he was born around 1823, probably in Louisiana, so in fact he might have been a little old to enlist. He lived in DeSoto Parish, LA in 1850 and in Beech Township, Lafayette County, Arkansas in 1860. This later became Miller County, and the area where he lived is just a tad bit southeast of Texarkana. In between those two censuses I have found some guardianship records and a second marriage, so I was able to establish that he moved into Arkansas by 1853. Unfortunately, I can't find anything after 1860. I only know that his wife/widow was still in Miller Co, AR and remarried in 1870. That's why I latched onto that record for the soldier who died at Camp Douglas. Again, it's a bit of a stretch.
