Nov 1st 1862 [No.] 149
General:
The General desires to know tonight if the artillery (three pieces) belonging to Genl [John S.] Marmadukes Division is in your camp. The section of [Westley] Roberts battery which was temporarily attached to Genl Marmadukes command was ordered to return and had done so. It may be that the other three pieces accompanied it: and in that event Capt Roberts will have with him seven pieces. If this be so, Genl Hindman desires you to order forward to Genl Marmadukes at Van Buren [Arkansas] the three pieces properly belonging to him, to move from your camp at daylight in the morning and proceed in the shortest practicable time to Genl Marmadukes Head Qrs.
Respectfully RC Newton AA Genl
Brig Genl F. [Francis] A. shoup Comdg Divn. &c
