I am writing a 60 page paper on the last Civil War veterans and have read what is here on William Murphy Loudermilk. While any information is welcome what is needed is the name of any relatives of military age, his father brothers cousins Uncles. Is there any exact proof of age? Some say October 1847 others a year later and the census figures are areal muddle. Is there any proof of age at any time? Did he ever refer to serving in any specific unit? Why were locals so derisive of his claim in 1950? I have found another possibility in the rolls, but more evidence will be good. I willa cknowledge assistance and post up what I have found on Loudermilk in a few days.
