The Arkansas in the Civil War Message Board

Re: 9th Arkansas, Comp B, Cut Off Guards

Thanks men,

I was looking for more in depth info. Like if the original muster role had home information for him. Any subsequent information that may appear in reports. The 1850 and 1860 Mississippi census has a William McCone listed as a younger brother to my GGGgrandfather in the McCone family. I have heard nothing about this brother before and for him to appear in the 1860 census and then join the 9th Arkansas within a year to 18 months seems like a little stretch. No good roads and a bunch of water to cross to get in SE Arkansas. The other 2 brothers survived the war, my GGGgrandfather in the 1st Miss light Artillery and his brother in the 4th Miss infy. Both surrendered at Vicksburg. Perhaps they reported him as a part of the family to the census taker even though he was in Arkansas by that time.
