Arms issued would generally vary by company within a regiment. Company C had no arms as of May, as in the case of Company K, but Company C is not noted as composed of new recruits. I don't have any information on what arms that any of the companies of the 42nd carried, but I can tell you that whatever they were issued, those weapons were surrendered to the Union army at Vicksburg. They would have then been re-armed while in parole camp in Demopolis.
