Re: 1862 Tower enfield markings

I took my Enfield apart this pm. The barrel does have a maker's name "EZRA MILLWARD or MILLWARE" stamped on the bottom. It also has the numbers 148 stamped twice: at the rear and on the small piece that sticks out at the far rear (I still don't know the terms).

On the inside of the lock plate there are the names: J SMITH above the main spring and R&W Aston in an arch. There is also the number 5 stamped.

Every piece I removed was stamped XVI. It looks like crude line over line marks to make the letters. Its on the hammer,butt plate, stock under the butt plate, barrel bands, barrel, even on the screws that hold it all together.

If anyone has any info concerning any of this stuff I would greatly appreciate your help.

Oh yes it did all fit back together...no extra parts...my wife was amazed.
