Mike,

Not all Confederate Enfield rifles and Colt pistols were imported during the war because there were several Confederate arms manufacturers in Texas. The arms factory at Tyler Texas was bought by the Confederate government and made exact copies of the British Enfield 3-band rifle musket until the end of the war. Gen. Joseph O. Shelby carried 2,500 Tyler Enfield rifles with him on his retreat to Mexico. The Dance Brothers at Columbia Texas made both army and navy model Colt pistols.

The pistol you are inquiring about could certainly have been made at the Tucker-Sherrod Company at Lancaster, in Dallas County Texas. The Tucker-Sherrod Company was given a contract to make 1,500 Colt 3rd Model Dragoon revolvers. They were delivered to the Confederate army until September 10, 1863. The regiments raised in the Dallas and north Texas area received those pistols.
