A re-inactor can carry a muzzle loading pistol, rifle or shotgun aslong as it is not loaded and capped. As soon as you cap the muzzle loading weapon, it becomes a prohibited weapon. Muzzle loading firearms are not regulated and controlled by the ATF and can be purchased by felons and by mail order without going through a firearms dealer.

The question I need to know is if a re-inactor carries a D-guard Bowie knife, is he guilty of carrying a illgal weapon? The D-guar can also be considered illegal because of being Brass-knucks. I am seriously considering cutting off the blade and D-guard of my Bowie knife and leaving the knife inside the scabbard at all times.

My D-guard Bowie has a 8-1/2" blade. Any blade over 5" long or any double edged blade (dagger) is a prohibited weapon.

Several years ago, just out of curiousity, I called the Texas State Troopers as asked a supervisor what were the rules about carrying a muzzle loading pistol or rifle to the shooting range or reinacting events. The state trooper told me to treat it just as a registered firearm...of course a lawyer may disagree with that but who wants to go to jail to find out?
