My cousin has a 1863 Springfield Rifle that his late father had bought many years ago from some people who were cleaning out an older house. The rifle has C-56 engraved in it. It also has the US emblem and the number 508. It also has three initials that are real faint to read. We would love to identify the soldier that may have used this rifle. Any suggestions as to how we would proceed will be greatly appreciated.
