I'm sorry to respond that identifying this particular type of weapon (Springfield or other Civil War musket/rifle) to a particular soldier is almost impossible without hard and verifiable government or family documentation. The only Civil War weapons that have some reasonable possibility of being in the National Archives records with an associated soldier's name and regiment are those with serial numbers. With few exceptions, these will be cavalry carbines and some models of pistols.

If you'd like to know more about your particular rifle, I suggest you post a question, and/or maybe a picture, on the 'Ask the Experts' (pre-1899) page of antiqueguns.com .
