Re: Sam Bloomer, Color Bearer 1st Minnesota

Forgot to mention, the statue on top of the grave is made of pewter, not cast iron. It is an extremely light (and hollow) marker that is quite durible.

I've had to climb the statue a few times years back to replace the flag with a 32-star flag from my reenacting organization, the Stillwater Guard, which is also Company B of the 1st Minnesota - Sam's old regiment.

Years back, we used to gather at Sam's grave where someone would climb the monument to replace the flag and put up the 32 star flag the company had. We held our own Memorial Day observance honoring all of the Stillwater Guard members, fire a rifle salute, and then have our annual photo taken. At the conclusion of our observance, we would replace the flag with the one the cemetery provides.

Sadly, the days of our Memorial Day observances have come to an end.
