Uniforms of 2nd Texas Inf and/or Trans-Miss Dept?

Hello all,
Does anyone happen to know what sort of uniforms the 2nd Texas Infantry wore or were issued? My gr gr grandfather was an Asst-Surgeon with that unit and I am wondering what he might have worn. Would they have just worn what Texas issued them or some sort of generic "Trans-Miss Dept" uniform? He was from a prominant old Maryland family and for all I know he might have had one tailor made for him. Who knows.

Also, an Asst-Surgeon was either a Lieutenant or a Captain. I wonder what rank he held? How do you tell? Records and/or articles about him say he was at first a "Contract Physician" but then made "Asst-Surgeon" with the 2nd Texas Infantry and that the 2nd Texas Infantry was mustered at at Galveston in 1964. It said he continued to serve in the Trans-Miss Dept. I wonder how I could find any records of his service after the 2nd Texsas was mustered out?

The reason I am asking about uniforms and rank is because I am thinking of having a portrait done of him in a C.S. uniform and I want it to be historically correct.

I do wonder why he, a Marylander, wound up with the 2nd Texas Infantry way down "Yonder" so far from Maryland. He finished med school at some big school in Baltimore in 1860 and might have been traveling on a lark, vacation, visiting kinfolks, etc, when the war started and he got caught up in it. Who knows? After the war he went back to Pr. Georges County, Md and owned a farm. In 1900 he owned 1600 acres. He died in 1906 and is buried in the St. Mary's Catholic Church cemetery in Clinton, Pr. Georges Co., Md. (near Piscataway).
