Seems like you have lots of informtion on your relateve but not quite what you want. Did you obtain any records from the national archives? Maybe you should post a question on the Maryland page of this forum. Some of the folks who visit are very good in finding soldiers records.I believe your original question was what type of uniform did he have. If he was an officer, his uniform most likely would not have been an issued uniform from any of the Western depots. It would have been private purchase, probably a single breasted frock coat. He may have also worn a civilian coat. I would suggest you obtain a copy of "Cadet Gray and Butternut Brown" by Tom Arliskas. That will be a good start to try and understand what the Confederates were wearing. The book seems to have a Western Army slant which is what you want.
