If the musket is a Springfield and the lock is marked as such, the stock and the rest was probably made at the Springfield Armory. I believe they had the stock making equipment at the armory. The Contract muskets are marked with the name of the Contractor who made them. The markes you are seeing on the stock are the government inspectors marks and should be on any musket accepted for use by Uncle Sam.
