Photographers did have prop coats and other items to use in photographs. Captain James Lile Lemon, of Co. A, 18th Georgia Infantry, was captured at Knoxville. He was held at Point Lookout, Maryland. There is a picture of him in a new looking jacket. He wrote in his memoirs that his uniform was not presentable, being torn and dirty. He said the photographer had a Confederate uniform jacket, which he wore for his portrait, then returned it to the photographer. The site where the picture and caption appeared is:
