The May 2009 copy of "America's Civil War" has a photograph on it's front cover of heavy artilery soldiers. These men are assumed to be manning the forts around Washington. The photo shows both officers and enlisted men. The officers are wearing the standard shoulder straps. One is obviously a captain. The enlisted men appear to be wearing scales or shoulder boards. Several additional photos on the cover story show similar uniform acruments.
