Orleans Guard Battalion

The Orleans Guard Battalion was transferred into Confederate service at New Orleans in early March 1862 and sent to Corinth. Advancing in line of battle between the Crescent (24th Louisiana Infantry) and the 18th Louisiana Infantry on April 6, 1862, they were subjected to friendly fire because of their blue Louisiana militia uniforms and suffered two men killed. For their final assault on the Federals on April 7th, they turned their jackets inside out "thus giving them the appearance of going to a masquerade ball." See Napier Bartlett, "Military Record of Louisiana" (LSU Press, 1964 Reprint, originally published circa 1875), pages 17-20.
