Re: D-handled bowie
In Response To: D-handled bowie ()

Joe, Our SCV camp had a blacksmith forge a Bowie Knife for us.
This knife has a D handle. We used a picture from a known Confederate knife, known to have been carried by a man from Georgia, as a sample of what we wanted.
After a few conversations with the blacksmith we decided to use old buggy springs for the blade material. Our thought was old buggy springs would have been fairly common in rural Georgia, and possibly easy to get. the wooden handle is made from old barn wood, and the D ring was made from flat stock. Our original thought was have the D ring made from horse shoes, but found that hard to forge into a correct size D ring.
We wanted everything as original as possible, even the dark finish on the knife, and forging marks left in the blade.
If interested in pictures and the process the smith used, please email me at taw87ga@gmail.com.
We will be selling raffle tickets as soon as we get them printed. anyone interested please email me at the above address.
