Thank you very much for the information. I wish I had it with me here now, because the "Prov." sort of makes me think that's what I saw. It wasn't clearly stamped but I'll take another look at it when I'm over at his house.
I understand what you're saying about antique dealers but I don't think this consideration will enter the picture. I think he's pretty set on "restoring" it. And when you think about it, it seems the right thing to do. Like "discovering" a '40 Ford Coupe in rather rusty condition behind a barn. Who could help but think that it would be an improvement to completely restore the classic, new paint, rebuilt engine and drive train, and go cruising.
Since I feel pretty sure he's going the "restoration" route, is there a preferred method?
