The Second National garrison flag of Fort Fisher (Wilmington, NC) also had that characteristic in the canton with the blue field and red cross. Maybe that flag was also made in Cuba? I am sure plenty of ships from Cuba ran the blockade into Wilmington. Just a theory, now to find evidence eh?
