Re: Flag capture by 29th TN at the Dead Angle

What are the details of the 29th's capture of a Union regiment's colors? Seems I've heard this before, but I can't remember the story. My 3rd Great Grandpa, Lewis Henry Lee, was a Pvt. in Co. "K", 29th TN Infantry. He was later captured on 19 July 1864 at Peachtree Creek the day before the battle. He was sent to Camp Douglas prison in Illinois. He signed the Loyalty Oath and volunteered for service in the 5th U.S. Volunteer Infantry. He claimed he was forced into Confederate service. He went AWOL from Ft Laramie and high-tailed it back to Hawkins Co., TN. He tried to apply for a pension for his Confederate service and was denied. He changed his name to "Louis" and applied for a pension from the Fed government. Also denied!
