Greg,

I agree with you totally that the 47th was probably issued a new flag, but probably is not quite good enough. Until you can find documentation for the unit getting a new flag it is not 100% safe to assume that they did. Also, after looking for years on this unit I have never been able to come across any proof that they lost their colors at Saylor's Creek, so again it is not safe to assume that they did...especially when they were also near one of the breakthrough points in the line just several days earlier and possibly could have lost any colors they had at that point. I would love to see some evidence one way or the other, but after years of reading their regimental history, diaries, and letters I have come across nothing that is conclusive. If anyone does have any writings that shed light on this unit I'd be very interested if they'd post it here.
