The Civil War Flags Message Board

Re: US flags captured by Tennessee Confederates

I found it on a website and recorded it, but all that paper work is packed up. I only found the notepad I had wrote it down on and thought, here is one for Greg.

I found some of my old maps, from the 1st Bull Run battle. Interesting map, done in September 1981 by the 1st Bull Run battlefield organization. I have never seen CSA movements and positions in any book like this. I can see now, where and how the 2nd New York Militia lost their flag. The 8th SC, 2nd SC and Hampton's Legion, marched over the Stone Bridge and were about half a mile from the Cub Run bridge. I believe either the 18th Va or CSA Cavalry took the 2nd NY Militia's flag. The Maine flag that Colonel Kershaw wrote, came from Howard's Brigade. The 2nd Maine was long gone out of that area. Howard's brigade brought up the rear in the retreat.

Many of the Union artillery captured were at the Cub Run bridge. The big 30 Pounder was on the other side of the bridge, while the light artillery was left near the huge pile up on Cub Run bridge.

This old map is a huge help. The 18th Virginia did not report any flags captured in their after battle report.

The good news is, I now will be staying, as I pointed out, that we have Four kids and both parents away, is just bad on the kids. I got the phone call early this morning and about jumped for joy!!!

I have been breaking up the boxes and trying to get everything put back, it will take a good week or so.

I will keep you updated on everything, Greg!

Have a good day!
